QR codes for business cards
Updated November 3, 2026
A QR code on a business card turns a small piece of card into a link to your contact details, portfolio or booking page. It only helps if it scans easily and points somewhere useful.
What should the code link to?
Pick one clear action rather than several.
- A vCard, so people can save your contact in one tap
- Your website or portfolio
- A booking or calendar page
- A WhatsApp chat, if customers contact you there
vCard or link?
A static vCard code stores your contact details inside the pattern. It works offline, but a card with a lot of details makes a dense code that is harder to scan, and it cannot change after printing.
A dynamic code points to a short link instead. The pattern stays simple, and you can update your phone number or job title later without reprinting the cards.
Size and placement
Print the code at least 2 cm by 2 cm, with a blank margin around it. Put it on the back, or on the front if there is space, and keep it away from folds and the edge of the card.
Design tips
Keep strong contrast, and add a small label such as "Scan to save my contact". If you add a logo in the centre, keep it small and test the code again.
Before you print
Scan a printed sample with two or three different phones. Check it works under normal indoor lighting. Matte paper scans better than a glossy finish.
