How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

Updated November 3, 2026

A Wi-Fi QR code holds your network name, password and security type. Guests scan it with the camera and their phone offers to join.

What you need

Your exact network name (SSID), your password, and the security type, which is usually WPA or WPA2. Names and passwords are case-sensitive.

Make the code

Open the Wi-Fi QR code generator, choose the Wi-Fi type, enter the three details and style the code. Check the preview, then download it.

How guests use it

On recent iPhones and Android phones, opening the camera and pointing it at the code shows a prompt to join the network. Older phones may need a scanner app.

Security notes

Anyone who scans the code can read the password inside it, so treat a printed code like a printed password. Use a separate guest network where you can, and change the password if it leaks. If you change the Wi-Fi password, the old code stops working.

Print it well

Print it at least 3 cm wide, in a frame with a label like "Scan to join Wi-Fi", and place it where guests will see it, such as a table, reception desk or fridge.
